1. Write exactly what you hear or heard someone say.
2. Make a list of something. First choose a title for your list.
3. Make a web. Choose a word for the center. Write words around it that are related. Then write words around those words.
4. Make a time-line. The time could be one hour, one week, one year, or your whole life. It could be a time-line of events, books read, gifts given, pets owned, words said, places visited.
5. River writing – write without stopping for one minute, or three minutes. Write whatever thoughts pop into your head; just like water flowing down a river.
6. Write about something someone in your family did.
7. Write about a room where you spend a lot of time.
8. Write about a picture, drawing, or photograph.
9. Copy a favorite sentence from a book.
10. Write about a memory.
11. Write about what you saw today, or what you smelled, or what you touched, or what you heard. Or, add taste and write about all five senses.
12. Write about something your family does every day, or every week-end, or every holiday – a family tradition.
13. Choose an object that is important to you and write about it. Describe it. Where did you get it? Why is it important?
14. Write about a special place.
15. Draw a map. This could be a map from your past, present, or future.
16. Write what you think about a rule at home or school or in the world. This is called your opinion.
17. Write a letter to someone real or imaginary, or to a character in a book, or someone on tv.
18. Write about something that happened to you when you were younger.
19. Write about a pet or favorite animal.
20. Write a make-believe (or true!) story about the first time you ate ice cream, or the first time you rode a roller coaster, or the first time someone was mean to you.
